The Bottom Line:
Are you looking to upgrade that old stereo system? Look no further. Sangean has come to the rescue. The Sangean HDT-1 is the best tuner out there.
The Sangean HDT-1 uses the new hybrid digital system developed by ibiquity. It is the first affordable tuner on the market. (199.99) Sangean has outdone itself in this initial offering. The tuner and the HD system perform far better than anyone expected, and is making a lot of people eat their words.
The HDT-1 receives regular FM stereo better than any of the other tuners I own. I couldn't believe it. The tuner receives AM stereo, which isn't even advertised or indicated. Best of all, the tuner does an excellent job on the new HD system of broadcasting. Most stations are broadcasting 1-3 extra HD channels in addition to their regular analog FM broadcast. The Sangean selects and displays these extra channels in a very clear up front way. The best thing about it, is the tuner has more sensitivity than a tuner I paid $ 500.000 for. When using an outdoor antenna I can easily tune in stations 60-80 miles away. I really had difficulty doing that with my 70s vintage tuner.
We finally have a display that gives us information about the broadcast, and the station name. This is great. I don't have to wait to the top of the hour to know who I am listening to. Its about time. This is the information age. You will not believe your ears or eyes when you connect the Sangean to your system. I am a convert to the digital age, thanks to Sangean.
