The Bottom Line:
Although outwardly attractive, the actual quality was poor. Sanyo avoided honoring the warranty, so choosing this product is a big gamble. If your unit is defective, tough luck.
I selected this unit because I wanted something that could play both tapes and CD's and would fit in the console of my vehicle. I was very pleased with this stereo at first. After a couple of months, however, the CD player became unusable. After being in use for a couple of hours (on road trips), it refused to leave track 8 of any CD inserted and wouldn't play more than a few seconds of sound at a time. Then when the CD was ejecting, it made a rather disturbing metallic grinding noise. I found that if the stereo is left off for more than an hour, it is possible to get a little more use out of it before the problem recurs. I was told by a local repair technician that this problem was not reparable so I needed to send it back to the factory to be replaced. The factory said that because the CD player looked like it had been damaged during shipping, that the warranty was therefore voided, and so they did not have to replace or repair the unit. It has not yet been a year since purchase. Moral of the story: if you have a defective unit, replacement comes out of your own pocket. Don't rely on the warranty to cover a poor quality product.
