I was mad that morning, let me tell you. To think that someone would break into my van in the middle of the night just for my JVC CD-player made me wonder what if I had taken off the faceplate that night? But it was too late now, so I got my window and body damage repaired, the leather cleaned up (see LOVING my older T&C, a review of my 1993 Town and Country) but there was still one big question, a question that really scared me, and that was what should I replace my JVC head unit with?

I plunged deep into my catalogs (Crutchfield is great by the way) wondering which product to buy, how about a JVC El-Kamelion? I am just a normal person and my other JVC had been great for me. The El-Kamelion had the auto hide feature, but nah what I really wanted was to be able to listen to my old tapes, as well as my new CDs. I could buy a tape deck and get a changer, too expensive, and I didn?t want to have to be loading my magazines all the time. How about a 1.5 DIN Jensen? Well Jensen didn?t seem that great of a brand. I had seen a SANYO in Crutchfield that would fit in my T&C but I was kinda scared about buying a Sanyo product.

What?s to be scared about? I really want to know. I was kinda questioning buying a SANYO product, after all not only do they make Car Radios but they also make Microwaves, Space Heaters, and even rice cookers. I was kinda skeptical if a product from that kinda company could really make any type of good stereo, but they are currently the only people that make a head unit complete with both a CD player and a Cassette deck in a DIN sized unit. I checked Epinions and the1 lonely review said that it was great, so I decided what the heck, I will buy it.

Buying this unit turned out to be a bit tricky, no one carry?s it and the people that do never have them in stock. I finally found a local guy that would sell me one for about $300 and install it too, he even had one in stock, I decided to sleep on it and that was a bad decision, he had sold it! I started looking around town, I even called Sanyo, they said that these units are so popular that they can?t make them fast enough, so I called my guy and ordered one, he had 5 on backorder, my name was added to the list, 10 days I was told, it turned out to be more like 3 weeks!

So finally over a month after my van was broken into my unit was installed. I just got it 3 days ago. So far I LOVE it! I am thanking the guys that stole my JVC every time I gat in my van and attach my faceplate (which I now always take with me). Here is how it works.

You have a nice large faceplate, it has a Sony style knob/ring with a button in the middle to control the Volume, Bass, Treble, etc. This works great but is nach! On the right hand side of the stereo, where it should ( or in other words, on the left side) are a + and ? button for tuning in stations, etc. there are 6 buttons to access your 18 presets but they can?t be used for Direct Track access, instead you have to hit the + or ? buttons a million times, which can really get old. Up in the right top corner there is a large OPEN button, press this and your panel folds down so you can access your CD player and (yes!) Full-Logic Dolby B noise reduction tape deck. This is by far the coolest and smoothest design, when you flip down the panel on the back of the face plate are buttons for tape (TA) Eject and CD (CD) Eject.

The sound is great, the BASSXPANDER is wonderful and I am hearing sounds from the top end that I never got from my JVC, having 45Wx4 is more power then I have ever had. It plays the Tapes so well sometimes I think I am listening to a CD, Which by the way are also played well. It gats Radio stations really well and a cool feature is the fact that it has ATP, Auto Travel Presets, these will seek out and fund the 6 strongest stations on the dial and store them separately from your FM and AM presets so that you don?t have to reprogram everything after traveling, they ought to replace the stereo in rental cars with this!

Now it isn?t perfect, like I said the + and ? buttons and the Volume dial should switch places and when putting on the faceplate one wonders if he is doing it correctly because you have to push harder then you?d like to. Also you have to put your CD all the way in practically before the loading mechanism will grab it, yet it almost dumps your CD on the floor when you hit Eject.

I would, though, definitely recommend this stereo to any and everyone looking you?re a better car audio choice, I will keep you updated on things I find on it.
Thank you burglars, wherever you are!
