The Bottom Line:
Buy this receiver if you are practical and possess CDs and tapes. DO NOT if you feel like waiting for a better or competitive unit.
The EXCD-1000 was fine when I first got it installed. I was back to making mix tapes for the road and the ugly green display was what I needed to keep my eyes open during nighttime drives. The fact that it did not play CD-Rs perturbed me when taken into consideration how much money I spent on it. I also investigated the EAX-510 CD changer to check its CD-R compatibility to my disappointment. Almost immediately following my Sanyo parts/labor 1-year warranty expiration, the back-light of the LCD display went out-- permanently. In spite of some misdirection from Sanyo reps, I took the faceplate to an authorized service center where a repairman told me the Excedio's lights black out more than any other unit he has dealt with. The most important functions remained intact, however. Mastering the digital fader, bass, treble, and balance is how I equalized for that custom sound (my rear speakers are about as amped as your clock radio's). But if it weren't for my wristwatch I would not know the time half the time.
