SANYO VCP-CG6 (a micro camcorder & camera that uses SD cards)

Pros Only $200. at WalMart, and it takes GOOD quality movies and pictures
Cons It's so small, I often hit the power button accidentally. A little cumbersome.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Works great as a micro camcorder and digital camera, but the small parts are prone to breakage no matter how careful you are.
My buddy, who always has the newest, coolest electronic gadgets showed me his CG6 last weekend. After using it for an hour... I SIMPLY HAD TO HAVE ONE!

I, who NEVER owns current technology, swore I'd NEVER buy a camera or camcorder that is bulky or has moving/spinning media of any kind. Well, the CG6 doesn't, and is a spectacular camera AND camcorder in a micro-package, and I mean MICRO!!! Best of all, it uses the newer SD memory cards.

I am not a professional photographer or videographer. While I'm not fully adept at using all of the features this tiny camcorder/camera has to offer, my friends are. They all love this Sanyo a lot, and I do too! True, it's not for the pros, and if one were to review it, could give you another point of view in that realm. But for the average joe, the VPC-CG6 will work great in most circumstances. The features include simple and fast movie and picture taking, anti-shake, works great in low light, has editing features like the ability to connect movies together, a 5X optical zoom and 12x digital zoom (more zoom than you need), it uses the MP4 format, stereo microphones, and all the manual abilities of most good cameras and camcorders. Did I mention IT'S TINY? Oh, you can also take stills WHILE shooting your movie.

The only negatives I've found so far (only had it a week) is when I connect the data cable. Due to its small size, I either accidentally hit the power button, which puts it to standby mode, or accidentally open the battery compartment door. The lens cap is not that good and hangs on a string which can sometimes get in the way. Also, the data cable connector is located on the bottom of the unit right next to the tripod connector threads. This mean you have to take it off the tripod every time you want to connect the data cable (kind of a pain in the butt).

Other than that, this thing is AWESOME!!!

Oh, I forgot to mention that the camera actually TALKS to you in a woman's voice to tell you what mode it's in. VERY KEWL!

Oh, Oh, Did I mention it's really, ReallY, REALLY SMALL?

UPDATE- MAY 2009-  The battery clip that holds the battery in broke. I simply and easily slipped a fresh battery into the clip that holds it in tight, and it just snapped right off. I brought it to my local camera repairman and he said he couldn't fix it- he wouldn't even try. I contacted Sanyo Repair, which is a 3rd party repair station, and they wanted to charge me for this obvious defect, so I opted to call the BBB on Sanyo. The outcome is still pending. LUCKILY, the clip only holds the battery in when the battery door is opened. The door itself holds the battery in tight enough to operate the camera, so the clip does not have to be functional to still use the camera. However, the battery door opens accidentally all the time when you handle the camera, so now I need to be extra cautious when filming. My ePinion star rating just plummeted!
