The Bottom Line:
The Sceptre X7 is light on your wallet. It's 8ms response rate will leave thoughts of ghosting and shadowing in the dark. This is a high performance, high quality monitor.
I have a Sceptre NAGA VI (X7) LCD Flat panel, and I have to say it's a great monitor. I purchased it on Newegg last year for $129, not knowing what I'd get since it was my first LCD.
The package arrived a week later and the delivery person throws it on the porch! I was shocked! I panicked and took it inside the house, opening it to see if there was damage. As far as I could tell there wasn't, but the real test would be when I powered it up.
So I took it out of the packaging and set it up. As you said in your review, it was already assembled and ready to go, so I hooked it up to my D-Sub connector (there is no DVI connection on the monitor). I started my PC and waited. I saw the Windows XP logo appear, and was ecstatic. So far, so good, I thought, until I noticed in the top right hand corner a little, almost infinitesimal pinprick of red light. A dead pixel. I wasn't really dismayed, as I figured the drop onto the porch was enough to cause some kind of damage (she really tossed this thing!).
To my relief, it was the only dead pixel, and it wasn't noticeable at all any other time than when the Windows screen was loading, so I consider myself extremely lucky. Anyway, I set everything how I want it, at 1024x768 resolution (it's easier to read) and 32 bit color. Then it was time to have fun. I decided to test the monitor and see what it could do, so I grabbed my copy of Battlefield 1942 and started it up. The performance was fantastic! I could see detail on the screen I'd never noticed with my CRT monitor, and there wasn't a hint of ghosting or shadowing anywhere. The monitor took it like a champ, especially when I loaded Battlefront 2 and ramped everything up to maximum settings.
I still have this monitor, and I keep it on 24/7 (it goes into standby via Windows after 3 hours). It has performed admirably, and I highly recommend it for any application. I use mine for everything: Photoshop, DVD movies, video editing, games, you name it, the monitor can take it. I am so impressed with this company that I plan on buying their 19" within the next year or so.
Highly, highly recommended.
