(Written by my 16-year-old son)
The Sharp MD-MS722. One word. WOW. It was about four months ago when I became aware of the mini disc technology. I knew right away that I needed to get one, so I began to do my homework.

I began to compare various players, sizing up features such as battery longevity, ease of use, cosmetics, recording quality, and price. The 722 hit the jackpot on all of these. I picked this small recorder up for a mere $150 after the rebate, a pretty skimpy price for the advanced features this little MD player packs onboard.

First off, the 722 is so easy to use I just took it out of the box and I was recording my first disc in less than five minutes. For those of us who can't quite afford a soundcard with optical/digital output (digital recording is a feature found on the 722), this little recorder has amazing analog recording capabilities. Synchronized auto start will automatically begin to record as soon as audio is detected through it's line-in port, and automatically stop the recording when an absence of sound is detected for more than two seconds. This feature makes recording a CD a snap, just pop it into your CD player and let it roll. In 74 minutes, you'll be ready to label the track names.

Tracking is a sinch with this little silver box, it comes equipped with a jog wheel which makes entering in characters flow like clockwork, it only takes me five to ten minutes to label a whole CD, which is not bad at all.

The battery on this thing is amazing, one small rechargable lithium-ion battery(included) will run the player for 6.5 hours, and will record for about 4.5 hours. Add the small AA battery side component and you've got almost fifteen solid hours of play time! One of the best features on this little gadget-geek's dream is its slot-in loading. Do you remember those old VCR's, the ones that you had to slide the tape into the thing and then press it down into the player? Well, most MD's are like that... The 722 breaks the mold with a loading mechanisim identical to current VCR loading bays, you just slide the disc in and it begins to play. Because of this, there are less moving parts. Few moving parts coupled with 40 seconds of anti-skip buffering provide for a crystal clear audio signal... Even if you are mountain-biking down the side of a rocky mountain(I haven't tried it yet, but it's held up to my running test).

The player comes with an indiglo-backlit remote control, headphones, digital/optical cable, hand strap, lithium-ion battery, AA side compartment, and a carrying case. I have no regrets about buying this little piece of equipment... Finally, an affordable way to take my MP3 music on the go. THANK YOU SHARP!
