Forget the Rio, use this for your MP3s

Pros great for recording from the computer
Cons expensive in the US? discs are expensive
Recommended it? Yes
i got this MD player as a gift, in Hong Kong. It was nowhere near as expensive as its listed here.

I'll tell you what I use this for. I hook it up to my computer and I use it to record my MP3s. I can get about 20 songs onto a disc. They sound great. The bass boost on the player is excellent. It goes up to 3, but 2 usually suffices for me. They sound a lot better on the MD than when I hook up my headphones to the computer and listen to the MP3s that way. You have to find the right combination of recording level on the MD and volume and other tweaks on the MP3 player to get the optimal sound. Recording from CDs provides a near perfect duplicate.

My point is, why would you buy one of those specialized MP3 things? At least you can use an MD player to record other things, like CDs, or from the radio, even a live concert. Plus you have the ability to use disks to save your music, and you can therefore trade and give them away to other people who have MDs.

There is a function to enter the name on the disc, and the names of the songs and such, in both English and Japanese (katakana). I never use it, it's kind of time consuming, and you can't do it while the disc is playing. I mean, think of entering the name "Red Hot Chili Peppers", or God forbid the name of the new Fiona Apple album.

There are many convenient functions for creating discs. You can split and combine tracks, move em all around, zap them, whatever. The battery life is quite long. Oh yes, it does come with a rechargeable battery, a remote, and earphones. The cord I use to hook it up to the computer was not included.
