The Bottom Line:
If you don't feel like spending much, this will do
The Sharp VC A410U vcr has basic features and a basic price ( around $80 )....you pretty much get what you pay for.
Just like other current VCRs, this is designed with on-screen programming. It can receive signals from a standard antenna, cable box, of digital satellite receiver. The machine plays tapes in SP, LP, and EP speeds, but records only in SP and EP speeds.
A Sharp remote control is included, with 2 AA cells.
Common to many VCRs, it doesn't have impressive picture sharpness when playing a tape recorded on a different VCR.
The VCR has a 90 day warranty; details on the back of the manual.
After you put a tape into the machine, the machine needs a bit of time to get ready to do use the tape; if you push a button ( rewind, fast forward, play ) before the machine is ready, your "button action" does nothing.
The rewinding is quiet; so quiet that you may not be able to tell if it's doing the job or not.
Basic features
VCR is 4-head type
Multi-language support ( English/Spanish/French )
181 channel tuner
1 year, 8 event programmable timer
Variable 'slow' frame advance
Automatic daylight saving-time adjustment
auto tracking ( during playback )
Digital Program Search System ( DPSS ) - locates the beginning of a specific recording ( I don't use this )
"Skip search" - moves forward 30 seconds at a time
"Instant replay" - replays 20 sec. interval
Auto zero back - finds spot at time '0'
"Tamper proof" - prevents accidental change of mode
Built-in front audio/video jacks
Features not included
Jog shuttle
No LED display for a clock, time-tracking, channel, etc., so all programming/recording work must be done on-screen
Since I haven't had a very expensive VCR i'm probably missing on many other features
VCR components
On the front:
Buttons for power, eject, channel change, play, stop, rewind, fast forward, record, pause/still, menu, and set ( picture )
LEDs for power, timer, vcr, record, and tamper proof
On the back:
Input and output connections for the antenna ( 75 ohm connections )
Input and output for audio and visual connections ( RCA jack connections )
Output channel selector
