Now this is value. An inexpensive VCR that is built with the quality of much more expensive units.
Upon purchasing a Hitachi in the same price range that broke within one month, I was skeptical of purchasing another, but decided to take one more chance. One year later, the Sharp has performed brilliantly. This machine has been abused, with constant rewinding and fast-forwarding and pausing for long periods of time. It still runs like day one.
Picture quality is very good, certainly acceptable to all but the pickiest viewer. Sound quality is acceptable, but is certainly the weak point of the unit. Often, the TV needs to be set at a relatively high volume for soft dialogue to be heard.
The controls are easy to understand and the remote is fully functional. I haven't even used some of the features on this machine. That being said, it does lack some features: GoTo. Also, the rewind is not as fast as most machines.
Programming this VCR is not difficult, though it can be done only using the remote, which is a pain in the neck.
This VCR will not impress diehard movie viewers who demand the best in quality, but that shouldn't be expected at this price level.
I highly recommend this VCR for anyone on a budget, especially college students. It has plenty of features, delivers a good picture and sound, and is very durable.
