Love the Sharp VC-H993U!
Pros
Rapid rewind, self-cleans heads, great picture and sound
Cons
automatic playback can be annoying
Recommended it?
Yes
Our old Sharp VCR recently died, and my husband got a great deal on the Sharp VC-H993U. This model is wonderful, with lots of bells and whistles.
It self-cleans its heads, which is a huge plus to me because I was forever either cleaning the heads of our old one or paying to have it done professionally. It also has speed-rewind. This has been a very important feature to us. We have three, very impatient children who want their favorite tapes rewound YESTERDAY, especially those long movies that take forever to rewind. Now they just go lickety-split, and the kids are happy. The VCR also has great Dolby sound and delivers a very clear, sharp picture. It is also very easy to program!
The only downside to this VCR is, it automatically starts a tape back over when it is finished rewinding. This can be annoying when it's time to turn off the TV and the kids see their video starting back over, and start to complain when it is turned off. I have yet to find a way to shut off this feature, so I have to be vigilant and ready to hit stop, eject, off as soon as the tape is rewound. Other than this, we have really enjoyed our VCR and I highly recommend it.
