Sharper Image SO227 CD Audio Shelf System

I must admit, I bought this item strictly for looks. I am remodeling a room in contemporary style and the design of this product fit the bill. The final selling point was that it was wall-mountable, therefore absolutely no wires showing. (The wall I was working with allowed reasonable access to fish wires through the wall, it may not always be easy to do this). The first mistake was mounting the unit too high on the wall. I realized after mounting that you cannot see the LCD display at any angle above your line of sight, it disappears at any angle other than straight ahead. The FM reception is very poor with a constant 'hiss' in the background that is very noticeable. Note: A portable 'work' radio that I listened to while installing this item had crystal-clear reception. The FM antenna is a single light-gauge wire coming from the rear which leaves no place to connect an external antenna. The unit only puts out 5 watts per channel also. I have heard clock radios that sounded better. Luckily I have it in a very small room and sounds good enough as long as you don't have the volume too high.
