Corners are so vignetted and soft I sent it back!
This lens looks great on paper--it's fast, it doesn't weigh a ton, it is mechanically well made. But when I ran some tests on my Nikon D40 I found a couple issues so serious I sent the lens back. I don't think it was limited to just the one I bought.
1) the corners were noticeably darker...

Sigma Af 18-50mm F2.8 Ex Dc Macro Lens For Nikon
This lens is 2.8 all the way through the focal range, NOT 2.8-5.6 like the cheaper len's. The sharpness of this lens will be very noticeable as compared to the 2.8-5.6 len's. If you're looking here you are already familiar with this SUPERB lens. I won't take up space with all the many details about this highly rated model. However, you need to ensure it will work with your particular model NIKON Camera (plus some models of Fujifilm, Kodak, Horseman, Sinar, Kiev, Ricoh, and Sears cameras- all respective). I got this lens for my daughter last week and I didn't realize that there are different lens mounts. I assumed that all auto focus len's worked on all auto focus cameras. It doesn't work on her camera. My ignorance and My loss is your gain. Check Adorama's price on this lens, they sell it for $669. For some reason there is an option for a $53 warranty.
