2.5 years later...

Pros Easy to use, survives my child's abuse, remote control, good reception overall
Cons A little bulky, yet another thing to plug into a dc outlet
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If your looking to get into satellite radio, this is a nice purchase. This system is great outside and in the car, but struggles a bit indoors without careful/strategic placement.
As a person who drives long distances regularly, I have truly enjoyed my Sportster over the past 2.5 years.

I bought it while living in a VERY small rural town because I was tired of fighting to get a clear signal on the radio and have since moved to a thriving state capital (figuring I would have to cancel service or break down and buy the car antenna due to interference with stronger FM signals) and have been pleasantly surprised!

I did not purchase the car antenna and find there are very few places I lose reception - though in all fairness, I do lose reception for a second or two when passing under EVERY overpass on the interstate.

I did not read the manual and have had no problems using the Sportster (programming the buttons, setting alerts, etc). Unlike the orange hue I had seen in friends' cars, the blue doesn't distract me from driving and is, in my opinion, easier to read.

When I got my GPS system, I relocated my Sportster in a place that forced me to start using the system's remote and could not be more pleased. The remote is simple to use and works from anywhere in the car (the highlight of my daughter-in-the-backseat's day!) and I no longer look down to change the channel.

One thing I disliked was the inability to flip through the stations quickly using the knob. When I was first using the unit and not familiar with the station genres and channel numbers, that made me crazy. I do not think I would have been as keen on the remote or satellite in general had I installed my system at more than arm's reach in the beginning.
