RioVolt SP90

Pros Battery Life, Good Price
Cons Loud, Load Time
Recommended it? Yes

This was my first CD/MP3 Player. I love this thing!!! The battery life is about 20 hours, only about 5 less then normal CD players. The fact that you can get as many songs as will fit on a CD is awesome, and it will still play normal cd's.
A few quirks: Didn't come with an AC adapter, a little... Read full review »

One of the best low-end players

byrotj Jul 13, 2002

Pros Price, features, battery life, format support, unofficial firmware updates
Cons Cheapo headphones; lack of AC adapter, backlight, and remote; button design
Recommended it? Yes

The SP90 is a fine sub-100 dollar mp3/CD player. It is approximately the same player as the Rio Volt SP100, only without an LCD backlight, AC adapter, remote, and external ESP switch. Note that all the SonicBlue mp3/CD players are rebranded versions of mp3/CD players made by iRiver. The SP90 is a... Read full review »

Unreliable product, company is on the skids

Pros ID3 tagging, nice buttons, good sound
Cons eats batteries, skips in a car, FAILS COMPLETELY!
Recommended it? No

When I was shopping for an MP3 CD player, I did my homework and learned that I wanted a reliable player with long battery life, skip protection and easy navigation features. Navigation and display especially are critical with MP3 players because it is more like a small computer and you have to... Read full review »

Rio Volt good for less than a year.

Pros Small size comparable. MP3 capability is great.
Cons Customer service w/Rio Volt stinks. Sucks life from batteries. Breaks w/in year.
Recommended it? No

Wow, when Rio Volt works, it's great. It's not quite the skip proof they claim, but it's better than most. If you have the money to invest in rechargeable batteries it's even better. Problem is, I've now bought 2 Rio Volts. One for myself, one for my better half. Within a year, both players stopped... Read full review »

Cons Prone to skipping.

MY STORY
My old Sony D-E220 recently stopped working because of a laser problem. I took it to the repair store. They said that they were 95% sure that it was the laser that needed replacement. That would cost $80-$90, almost twice what I had paid for the thing! So, from then on, I was in... Read full review »

Pros Many formats, anti-shock, customizeable, looks cool!
Cons No AM/FM radio
Recommended it? Yes

This is the first and last MP3/CD player I will ever need.

Formats:

The SP90 accesses the CD just like a hard drive would. It recognizes CD Audio, WMA, MP3, and even MP3 PRO files. MP3 files works very well at all bitrates. I hate switching between 50 CDs to go from one song to... Read full review »

Pros Like it says plays MP3, WMA and regular CD discs.
Cons Pathetic battery life. Pathetic anti-shock. Lack of playlist organization.
Recommended it? No

My first one lasted 24 hours. My second one really stinks. I bought it to play home burned MP3 discs...which it does bit the slightest bump skips it. Totally useles unless you are standing still. Once it skips it takes 30 seconds to reboot. I find this very frustrating.

When it is not... Read full review »

Great Little Number: SP90

Pros Great Sound, MP3 Naming, Easy to use.
Cons Regular CD's. Built as and MP3 player first. Is a plus for me.
Recommended it? Yes

For the money I don't think this one can be beat. You Get 120 seconds of anti-skip while playing MP3's. Let me tell you I don't think that it could be made to skip and I have tried everything just less than a drop to the floor. If you plan on listening to primarily regular CD's look to another... Pros Plays mp-3, cd, and wma. 15 hour battery life. Easy to use. Large LCD.
Cons Price maybe a lot to some on a budget, so search around for deals.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought the RioVolt because I was looking for an easy to use and portable cd player to replace my older Sony while commuting to and from college.

The RioVolt SP90 is simple to use. You can use it to play regular cd's, mp-3 cd's (fitting hundreds of songs on 1 cd depending on the kbps you... Read full review »

Great CD player

Pros quality sound, nice looks
Cons no backlight, bad skip protection
Recommended it? No

This CD player is great. You will never have to buy more than 10 CD-Rs ever again. You burn the songs as a data CD, so you get about 200 songs per CD. Also, the sound quality is very high. The songs only skip if it is reading from the CD, and even then only if it is held vertical. Now, onto the bad... Read full review »
