Very good camera for a first dslr
Pros
Long battery life Not too expensive good features like stabalization.
Cons
Only takes Sony flashes, unless using an adapter
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I would recomend to buy it.
I bought the Sony A300, because I used to own the Sony A200, and I wanted to upgrade, and it is a great DSLR. With SLR's, Less than half of your photography budget should be spent on the actual camera, becaue you will want more than one lens, and other accessories like a tripod or a remote release.
Sony DSLR's have two special features that I like: The first is the In-Camera image stabalization, and the second is the sensor cleaner that shakes the image sensor that is in the camera every time you turn off the camera, or put it into cleaning mode.
Another thing is the VERY long battery life. I can turn on the camera with the battery at 87%, take over 40 photos, and it will only be down to 84%! I only have to charge the lithium battery every 4-5 weeks.
If you ever want to upgrade to a better camera, you can buy a Sony A700, or A900, and all of the accessories for you camera should still work like a remote, or different lenses, or flashes.
I would deffinetly recomend buying the Sony A300 DSLR if you budget is betwen $800 and $1100. You will also need a Compact Flash memory card, and I recomend a tripod. Sony DSLR's are the 3rd most popular brand of DSLR's, and they have only been around for a few years!
