Good Quality 32" LCD HDTV

Pros A Great image quality HDTV LCD with built-in HDTV Tuner.
Cons Lacks a DVI input (but includes 2 hdmi). LCD panel does not pivot/swivel.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  A Great looking HDTV LCD that has good image performance. Image quality is definitely above average. Functionality is slightly above average.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

The Sony Bravia KDL-32M4000 32in HDTV is slim and attractive with a high-end feel. The screen swivels from small base if inclined to angle the set for better viewing. The remote is rather bland and boxy.

On occasion, I will be comparing this TV to the Sharp Aquos 37" and Vizio 32" LCD HDTV.

IMAGE QUALITY:

As a SDTV (Standard Definition TV), the unit performs very good with when using cable (comcast). The blotchiness evinced by some LCD TVs in SDTV does not plague this set.

HDTV content with the built in HDTV Tuner displayed excellent images (both with QAM and OTA). 720p and 1080i content is very sharp. Though changing HDTV channels annoys me because of a small lag between the time I hit channel /- and the actual channel change.

Analog RGB Connection from my computer reveals a crisp and steady image with a 1-1 pixel mapping to show every detail that would appear on a computer screen. I was pleased with the image, but would have preferred if the unit had a DVI connector for an even better computer to TV image.

This TV includes a plenthora of image customizations including backlight (including automatic adjustment based on ambient), hue, sharpness, etc. Each input (TV, HDTV, RBG) can be customized independently.

FUNCTION:

The menus were mostly a hit though marred by a couple major misses. The ability to customize individual channels was the best I've seen; the channels (including sub-channels) and inputs can be labeled, skipped and added. Changing between TV and PC is a simple one button press (unlike the Sharp Aquos).

One major flaw was the channel information available usually from broadcast for HDTV content was occasionally missing. Sometimes show titles are displayed; though even those diplay with uncertainty. Another major flaw is the channel favorites; switching between them is a travail. A minumum of three buttons must be depressed to select a favorite channel. One to initiate the display of possible favorite channels, up/down to select favorite, and final button to select.

Nonetheless, I feel the overall functionality of the controls were above average.

SOUND:

The sound was good. I felt the Sharp Aquos with side mounted speakers was slightly better. One feature which this TV includes is steady sound which when turned on, normalizes the volume across all channels. This feature was sorely missed on the Sharp Aquos because HDTV volume tends to fluctuate drastically between different channels and between comercials.
