There were countless times when I recall telling my parents," I wish I had a video camera so I could show you that you promised me..." That moment came to full realization when I seriously approached my parents about buying a camcorder. I think the breaking point was reached when our pictures from a recent trip came out terribly, rendering them garbage.
We went to a few different stores to gather information and found Circuit City's associates to be incredibly helpful and earnest. They explained to me the differences between the kinds of camcorders. I settled on the Sony Hi-8 because it seemed to suit my needs. It was a VCR and camcorder in one, thus it saved me the hassle of transferring video footage from one form to the other. I could watch what I just recorded on the little LCD screen. Also, the appearance was another attraction. This camera was small! I couldn't believe that something this delicate and sophisticated could be no larger and a rabbit. This made it easier to walk and record scenery at the same time. This was very useful because when I went to the Grand Canyon and Yosemite Park, this past summer, I need to record things in a matter of seconds. I was able to keep this camera in my lap and start shooting when I saw like wildlife, etc.
As far as who should get this camera, I think this can work for most people. If you feel like you want to buy camcorder for ordinary use, then buy this one. If you need to do complicated video editing and looping, then buy this camera. However, it cannot be directly hooked up to a computer because it is not digital. I didn't get a digital one because I didn't feel I needed it and I didn't feel like spending the extra $300.
So, far I have no complaints about this product whatsoever. I have had it for almost one year and it has given me no problems. This is my typical experience with Sony products, I can depend upon them to give me reliable and superior service. This camcorder certainly reinforces that belief.
