Cons
None
Recommended it?
Yes
I really enjoy playing with my video camera. I have yet to use all of the video editing equipment that I purchased and set up with the new computer a few months back. I have video from all over the world and tone of footage from Alaska. In fact, the camera was a gift from my wife given to me right before we got married.
Two weeks before we got married, we went on a vacation to visit her sister in Alaska. It was during this trip that I put the camera through the paces. I captured over five (5) hours of bears, moose, and the natural setting. We saw Denali, Prince William Sound, and many other areas in and around Anchorage.
The video came out very well with well balanced colors and good sound. In fact the sound pick-up for the camera is really great. It sometimes picked up soft voices, typically me giving a stage direction. This is something I will have to edit out. Of course, adding in some good music will make the video better to watch.
The camera itself is very durable. It has been bounced around as we have traveled around the world. In less than two years, the camera has been subject to x-ray machines all over. It has been beet around in the overhead bin of numerous planes. (I believe we have been on seven overseas trips during this time, in addition to numerous trips around the USA.)
With all the beating, the camera keeps on ticking. Recently I added a filter to the front of the camera. This was done to protect the lens from an accidental scratch. If something does happen, it will be easy to unscrew and replace the filter. Also, the filters are cheap compared to a new lens. I have asked Best Buy to clean the camera once and will head over there again soon. We got the extended warranty on the camera because it was a large purchase of an item that could easily break. So far, the extended service warranty has paid for the cleaning.
The camera is not very expensive considering the features. Night shot and steady shot really allow this camera to do more than many of the older cameras can. With an extended battery it is not hard to keep the camera on most of a day is someplace like Disney and get loads of good shots. Then it is just time to watch the footage.
As with any personal video camera, it is necessary to edit the footage into a production folks want to watch. This camera helps along the way by allowing easy tracking of the time on the tape. This allows easy indexing of the shots if you so desire. Also, each time you turn the camera on, it displays the current time and date. This is a problem when you shoot footage from your hotel balcony in Tokyo and the date is off by a day.
Go with a Sony camera and get the latest camera with the most features you can afford. You will end up seeing the price of your camera drop soon after you buy it, but that is technology for you. It happened to the computer you are using now!
