Another Excellent Sony ES Product.

Pros Great sound quality. Elevated Standard (ES) Build Quality. Feature rich. Durable.
Cons Dated, no SACD, but great sound quality never goes out of style.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I'm glad I picked one up. It is an audiophile level music source.
I picked up a mint but used Sony CA9ES CD player. I've used it with a 5 watt per channel Single End Triode tube amp pushing a pair of Dahlquist DQM905 speakers. The Sony is a wonderful CD player for redbook.

I am using it now with a Sonic Impact T-Amp ($20) and a Radio Shack 13.8 Volt 5A power supply driving a pair of Michaura M55 speakers and a Velodyne 10" sub. Sounds great.

I also have a Toshiba SD9200 DVD-A/CD player. The sound quality is very similar. I have a Philips SACD 1000 which until it died was better. Why? It's difficult to say. Subtle, you have to live with them for a while to say one is better. But the highs seemed purer from the Philips. However, the Philips is dead and the Sony ES keeps trucking on.

The CA9ES is heavy and the tray is pretty solid feeling for one that holds 5 CDs. I jammed the CDs in the tray and actually got a hold of Sony customer support online. Unplug the unit and attempt to eject they told me. Their suggestion helped, but I had to take the case off to get the CDs back in their shallow receptacles. I won't be moving it around again while it is full of CDs.

The Sony is neatly arranged, heavy and appears to be well made. Sound quality is excellent.

I am very happy with it.
