Not reliable / Broke a CD in half on first use.

I bought this product because Sony has a reputation of making a basic, but fundamentally solid product. By profession I am a designer / developer of precision mechanisms, so I treated this device with the same level of care with which I handle the expensive tooling in my lab. I was quite astonished when the mechanism broke a CD one the first use. The first disk played properly, and then without any indication that something was amiss, it broke the second one, and jammed on the pieces of the broken disk. I sent it back the next day.
