Great changer

bypps42 Mar 20, 2002
Pros Straight forward installation, good sound, doesn't skip.
Cons Plan the wire layout before running the wires.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Yes, highly recommended. See summary above.
I purchased this changer for my wife. We have a 99 Buick Century and she wanted to keep the factory radio (large clock.)

Installation is simple, if you have done any stereo installs in the past. Hardest part of my install was finding and attaching the constant power lead and the switched power lead to my fuse block. I removed the fuse block from my car so no wires are hanging out infront of the fuses.

The wires are more than long enough to reach the trunk of the car. Looonnng wires. Just make sure you plan out how the wires will run in the car. This will save you the head ache of removing and reinstalling if you left yourself short or too long. I left the extra few feet of cable in the trunk, so I could zip tie them up behind the CD changer.

I mounted our CD changer under the trunk lid with the included bracket and it works great. There is a little concave depression up into the rear deck of the car, so the CD changer fits up in there like a glove. We still have plenty of room to change out the cd magazine.

Complaints:
The cd magazine should have the cd #'s on the sleves of the magazine. You just have to learn that the bottom of the magazine is disc one and then count up to ten. Only a little grip here.

Mounting the control took some thought. I decided to mount it a little left and below of the factory radio. This allowed me to have the control wire be mostly hidden by my A/C controls. The install looks great. Sony includes some velcro for the control and to put on the dash. The velcro on the dash would not stay attached for anything. Finally I decided to put a few small screws into the dash thru the velcro. I painted the heads of the screws black to match the velcro and now you can't even tell that they are there.

I plan on keeping this car for several years and it is not a leased vehicle. We will sell the changer with the car, so the dash will not have the holes left over if we removed the cd changer.

You will have to find a better way of mounting the control if you lease your vehicle or if you plan on removing the cd changer when you sell the vehicle.

In summary: Both my wife and I love the changer. Besides the little grips above, I recommend this changer to anybody looking to add a cd changer to a factory system.
