Bum unit or a bunk product?
Pros
Great Features. Lots of power, awesome sound.
Cons
Sk Sk Sk Sk Sk Skips.....
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
A good solid choice, IF yours does not skip! Sweet features and capable of controling MD/CD changer. I reccomend it as long as you LISTEN FIRST.
Let me start off with the pro's:
This unit is packed full of cool features like CD text MD/CD Changer control and a neat little flip down face. The sad truth is that I don't use most of these features. At one ppint I had a couple of 10 inch Kickers in the back of my truck, but they are long gone. When they were installed the sound was clean and crisp. I have stock speakers now and the sound is still a thousand times better than the old AM/FM deck that was in there.
Power:
This deck puts put 40x4, which is a pretty solid amount IF you only have 4 speakers in your car, once you go beyond that you will need an amp to power them. This deck has 2 RCA outputs to provide for that though.
Features:
This deck is packed full of the usual Sony gadgetry. It has CD Text, MD/CD controls and D(dynamic) Bass control. It also has conveinience factors like channel labeling for the station presets which it has 30 of.
Cons:
There is only one in my opinion....the horendous skipping. This deck skips A LOT!!!! Not just going over bumps either. I drive an older full size K5 Blazer, these came equiped with a steel dashboard, at first I thought the unit might have been shorting out on it. After a thourough check I found that was not the case. My second guess was that it might be loose in the mounts so I took it back to best buy and they installed some stabilizers and that puppy does not move a bit anymore. Still skips though. Because of the skipping I rarely use the CD player because it frustrates me. I have cleaned the laser lense and every other little thing I could think of in order to stop it but with no luck. I am pretty loyal to Sony so I would like to say that this is probably a fluke but who knows? Something to be on the lookout for, that's for sure.
Bottom Line:
This is a good deck and it's my opinion that I just have a funky unit. It has good feature and lots of power. I would reccomend it, just listen to it first if you can. See if it skips around on you, if not buy it. If you already own one and know how to fix the skip drop me an e-mail and please let mew know how to fix it!
