Great sound, but OK overall
Pros
Sounds great
Cons
important features missing
Recommended it?
Yes
I guess my title says it all.
I got this unit over a 6 month ago for a great price of $200. And yes, at that price it is a great deal, but a great deal doesn't equal a great equipment.
Number 1: Music - that's why one would buy Sony ES. They really go the extra mile in making sure that anything with SONY ES on it sounds great. I am very serious about the quality of sound, and this little unit provides me with an excellent sound. That should be the most important part of anyone's decision when buying an audio equipment.
Now for the rest:
I must say that comparing to other brands, this unit offers a number of useless features and yet some essential things are missing.
There is no attenuater - that's a major overlook!
All the controls with numbers (1-10) control radio only, You can't select songs by their numbers, you can only select radion stations. (so to get to song # 6, you have to skip all 5 songs rather than just pressing 6).
There is an annoying alarm that you can't disable - it sounds every time you turn the ignition off and don't detach the faceplate. You may like it at first, but soon it will only annoy you. (it will be disabled if you connect the unit to an amp - weird isn't it?)
You can have the clock and track# (or station#) displayed at the same time, but the clock is so small you won't be able to read it. I wish you could just display the full sized clock by a press of a button.
Well, like I said: it sounds great, so I guess that's the most important thing, but...like I said....
