Be Advised!

Pros sound quality ok, sony phone support
Cons lighting, confusing buttons, annoying security beep, shrill feature
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  stay away unless you are a young kid that wants a flashy deck with confusing buttons with lots of annoying beeping
The CDX-GT300 Sony car stereo has had good reviews on all the websites I have looked at. However, I do not like mine! The biggest problem I have is that everytime I turn my car off the stereo makes a super annoying beeping noise to remind me to remove the face of the stereo (to prevent it from being stolen). This beeping sound CANNOT be dissabled!!! I called Sony and they verified that the sound is permanent on this model. Also, the deck is really confusing to operate because the buttons have multiple uses and very small print -- it is very unusual. Once you figure it out, it works pretty good... but if you let other people drive your car, they will be confused... For example, to turn the stereo on you press the "Source" button.... how many people would know that? Most people would look for an "On" or "Power" button. That is just one of many. Also, the manual is confusing and not very thorough.

Also the "shrill" sound that people talk about is true for this model. there is a feature to lift the sound and make it more crisp -- it does sound more crisp and clear, but something about it makes it give me a headache... i think the word "shrill sound" describes it well.

On the plus side, when I called the phone number in the manual to contact Sony, a polite technical support person came on the line pretty much right away and helped me. Unfortunately, he couldn't help me turn off the annoying beep, but atleast i wasn't on hold for an hour to find that out.

overall, I am dissatisfied with the stereo. I think for a young kid that wants a flashy, fancy stereo that beeps a lot it would be ok... but for a 29 year old that just wants a normal stereo, this thing is not the best

***update - today I tried to remove the switch that disables the beeping noise... removing the switch does in fact disable the beeping noise, but it also disables the entire stereo.... looks like I'm stuck with the beep no matter how hard I try.
