Simply Sony

Pros Easy-to-use controls, solid feel, intuitive interface, excellent sound
Cons Perhaps a little garish looking
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  While its looks may not be for everybody, it's a solid, easy-to-use system, with excellent sound, great durability at a low cost.
I bought the CDXL 300 in Canada (very similar to the CDXL 250 in the US) and I couldn't be happier. I was seeking a good quality system to replace my stock cassette player (in a 2000 car none-the-less!)

The volume and tuning buttons are big and easy to use. The preset buttons are a little small, but easy to program. It also has an automatic feature for travelling where it scans the radio band for the strongest signals and saves the top 6. You can set the system to mono to improve reception for weak signals and toggle between Local and Distance setting to either encourage or discourage the radio from stopping at every weak signal it receives.

The reception is excellent. On a regular scan, the radio picks up radio stations that are a 90 minute drive away.

The XL 300 has a clock... I'm not sure if the XL 250 does.

The CD player is your basic unit, with song advance, fast forward/reverse, repeat and random settings. Sounds great.

The radio beeps everytime you press a button. This can be turned off. There are instructions in the owner's manual.

You can adjust bass, treble, fade and balance. There is also a three step bass-boost system which works well. It also has a cool button that can automatically change which speakers play the music the strongest... this way, when only the driver is in the car, it can be set to one setting, but if the car is full of people, it can be set to another. A little superfluous perhaps, but fun.

The looks are a personal choice. I personally don't mind the silver colour, since my car is silver and my interior is dark blue. The background display colours of blue and pink also go well with my purple speed-o-metre display. However, it's something you may wish to check.

The faceplate is fixed. Again, personal choice... not having it removable makes it feel more solid and theft is not a big concern in my neck of the woods.
