Sony CDX-M730 Car CD Player

This unit is really sharp, I've had mine for about a year, and I have no major complaints to talk about really. Let's start with the ABP(active black panel) display, This is just downright awesome, this is what fist attracted me to this unit. It has a 5 color dot matrix display that just looks sick. When the power is off, it turns to all black, no visable buttons or anything, this is suppose to deture thieves, yeah right, if I was a thief(which I'm not) and I saw that sitting there, I'd know that it was a pretty good unit and I'd snatch it right out. That's why I always detach the face plate, which is another sweet feature this thing has. So back to power up, you pess this little red button on the face, or remote, and the face fold out and reveles a whole new side to the unit, literalty, there are buttons that light up red on this side, and little screen that lights up bright blue(very nice looking too). Now down to the good stuff, the sound. This unit does produce very sharp cd playback. It also has a built in 7 band digital EQ, and the Sony DSO(digital soundstage orginiser) this is problably the best sound management system out there. This takes sound commin from the factory cut outs and makes it seem so well orginised it almost feels like you have head phones on, very nice indeed. This unit is very versitile in that it has front, rear, and subwoofer preamp putputs. This is where my only real complaint comes in, the pre-amp volatge is only 2V, not quite as impressive as the 4V Alpines, but it still does very nicely as long as you have high quality amps(I'd suggest JBL). I recently expanded my system to external amps, from using the internal amp, the internal amp in this unit is very strong though, running 23.5 watts rms, 52 peak. The cdx-m730 is also loaded with tons of other cool little things, you'll hafta buy one and find out:). This unit is also a CD and MD changer controler, and an XM radio contorler. Overall I would recomend this to anyone that isn't looking for the ultimate in sound quaity, but still wants to be superior to most units, and who cares about the way it looks.
