Great Bang for the Buck

Pros Sounds great, great features, looks sleek.
Cons Has a tough time playing dirty MP3 discs, scrolls song title only once.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I would definitely recommend this head unit to others as it has great sound quality and features at a reasonable price. It covered everything I wanted in a CD/MP3 Player
This is a great product! I have always be fond of Sony's products, and when I went looking for a CD/MP3 player, I knew I had to get this one. I shopped around, and found the best price I could, and ordered it online with the intentions of installing it myself. It soon thereafter arrived, and I set to work. I drive a '91 Acura Integra (see my other review), and removing the old head unit was near impossible! Anyways, after a few days, a friend's help, and a ratchet, we got the old one out. Installing the new Sony unit took less than 20 minutes! It required only a few solder joints, and a mounting bracket, and that's it. I don't recommend installing one's own stereo if he is rather lacking in the "handy" department... it's worth the $40, or whatever the service charge. However, if you know general electronics and like a small challenge, do it yourself!

As far as looks, I love the display, as it is very bright blue, and very easy to read. Sony fit a lot of information in a little space. The visuals aren't amazing, but I'm not looking at it when I'm driving, and I hope you're not staring at your stereo either when driving! The CDMPX40 sports a sleek look with shiny silver and round edges.

The sound produced from this unit is better than I have heard from my stereo at home. The unit (along with good speakers) can handle notes that my stereo at home can't. Sound is clear, even at high volumes, and the unit packs a lot of power. MP3's sound just as good as CDs (if you have a high bit rate). Being able to organize the MP3s in folders is a time saver, and it handles CDRWs great. I like the flip-down face as well, as it saves space, and is removable.

The only downfalls of this product is that the song title only scrolls across once, if you miss the one full-scroll, you get the first 8 letters of the song title or name (Depending on what you have the display set to). Another problem is with dirty CDs. Granted that all CD players can't play dirty CDs, I have found that on MP3 CDRWs, if you have a smudge on the CD surface, you may lose a song, or get awkward sound peaks throughout one song. Other than those, I can't find any negatives. Sony did an awesome job producing this unit, and I will use it for a long time.
