It suits my needs excellently.

Pros Sound quality, MP3 capability, Satellite radio compatability, Remote
Cons Remote is "line of sight" only, a fibre-optic option would be nice!
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great sound, and excellent storage in MP3 format. A brilliant alternative to a changer. Would recommend to anyone with an ISP & a CD burner.
Let's get some things clear from the outset. I'm not under 30,I'm not a car hi-fi expert or enthusiast, and I don't want to shake the glass in surrounding vehicles when stopped at a light.
But this little unit, coupled with my car's standard speakers, make it a possiblity!
Having a car aimed towards "mature" drivers, and only equipped with a tape deck, a change was necessary. I toyed with fitting the factory six disc changer, but location ruled that out. I wouldn't be able to get at when the trunk was loaded. So I reviewed options and decided on an MP3 player.
Next step was to go round to local supplier & listen to what was available. I cannot emphasise this enough for any sound system you intend to buy. Listen to it carefully first. Ideally it should be in the area you intend to use it (for acoustics), and with the intend speakers (this can make a huge difference), but if you can only do it on a stores test board, it still helps. Try it with as many speaker combinations as you can, and use the results you get to compare with your intended use.
It was this test that brought me to by this Sony unit. It offered the features I wanted with excellent sound quality at a great price.
At this point I must confess my needs are minimal. I put a disc in, I want it to play, and sound good. If I don't like a track, I skip to the next. If I have multiple alums on a disk, I want to able to easily choose which album to play. and that's about it. So other features, I can't comment about. But for what i want it does superlatively.
As an Electrical Engineer, I elected to self-install, and correspondingly purchased the loom connection for my car, and a suitable surround. The install was simplicity itself. However, with the arrogance of my experience I decided that I didn't need any instructions, and left the manual lying around somewhere, which my wife "tidied" for me, and now I'm unlikely ever to see again.
This model has a default demonstration mode, which cycles messages through the display, and is activated when powered, but not turned on. I accept this is handy for display in the store, but I am unable to turn it off (without instructions), and it is beginning to annoy me. But I accept that as my own fault. Should've read the instructions first!
However, that being said, when turned on, the unit is an excellent piece of kit. The display is attractive & easily read in all light conditions, and the functions are easily understood & operated. the control layout is a little gimmicky for an "old school" guy like myself, but that's just personal taste. The sound was easily set to suit my car & musical styles, and by experimentation I found that with the right track, the X-Plod engaged, and the volume cranked, I could indeed be like many of the annoying teenagers in our area with sound systems three times the value of their vehicle installed!!!
Once tested and set I then got to work on my PC, and burned some MP3 discs.
If you elect to do this then be aware of possible copyright violations here, and ensure that you do this within the law. There are now several sites you can legally download MP3 formatted music at a price.
I can easily fit 6 albums onto a single CD-R, and when compiling a collection I fitted 94 tracks onto one disc before getting tired of it, and I still had 100Mb free on a 700Mb disc!
This is great, I don't have to fill my car with discs, risking them being damaged in the Florida sun, to enjoy a good variety of music. Nor do I have to change discs every hour or so.
The remote is useful too. Once the position of the controls have been memorized, I can control it without having to move my position or take my eyes off the road. I would have liked to have been able to hard wire it to the unit, so that I could permanently mount it in an advantageous position (an option I had via fibre optic cable on a Sony Tape system I have previously owned), but I guess you can't have everything.

Overall I would thoroughly recommend this unit. It looks okay, sounds great, and has more bells & whistles than I'll ever need. It gives me the capability of a changer in a smaller, neater, format, & reduces the number of discs I need to keep in the car.
