Nice and cheap HU
Pros
Price, looks, DSO, 3 band EQ
Cons
No WMA, just scrolls the title of an mp3 once, navigation a bit cumbersome
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Excellent little unit. Lacks some features to make easier in-CD navigation, but you can't beat the price!
This is my second incursion on the MP3 HU market, and to be quite frankly, I'm very pleased. It does exactly what is suposed to do, with no fancy display or other features not related wih sound.
The DSO is excellent!! It makes you hear your speakers higher than the low place in your doors, and sound is very rich.
What somehow bothers me is the lack of an auto-scrolling system, you only get to scroll the name once, and then it stops. The only way you get to scroll it again is to press de Display button several time until the title apears again. Vey annoying. Also, for a 2003 unit, WMA support should have been present.
Also, navigation is a little cumbersome, if you are displying filename, using the / - album buttons take you through the different folders. If you are displaying ID3 tags, it takes you through different albums. In filename view (wich I use almost all the time), once you are in a folder, it starts directly to play the first song, but it doesn't display the name until you cycle through the DISPLAY button all over again.
Also, the lacking of a direct input for the file you want to hear (instead of cycling through all the files with your seek buttons) is annoying when you want to hear an specific song you know is somewhere in the middle of the CD.
But again, for the price, it does what is supossed to do! Plays CD's, MP3, CD/MD changer and a nice EQ and DSO thecnology. If you are looking for a low price unit that won't dissapoint you, take the CD MP40 into consideration. If you are looking for cool display, dolphins, pictures of your family, etc. in your display, then this one is Dfinitively not for you!
