MP70 overall a nice headunit
Pros
Great sound, quick loading, nice display, overall looks nice.
Cons
faceplate removal, Made in Korea. Scratches on an mp3 cd cause skip easily
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Easy to learn how to use, radio also works well even though I listen to MP3 cd's.If worried like me get extended warranty. If it breaks use the aux in
Why buying a new Headunit?:
For me I was looking for acouple of things. Switching from an Acura integra cd player that skipped often certain times(due to dust on the CD, and cold weather), The Sony unit had some nice features, bright display, easy controls, and glow in the dark remote. Most important features to me, anti-skip, mp3 capability, aux in (for external devices). This device has RCA outs and sub out, which make it convienient, but haven't got enough money yet for new speakers and amp. Though this unit is phasing out of production, for the MP80 (only difference 4V preout and black faceplate), I like this faceplate better, since it is silver not black.
Experience/features:
I have owned this for around a six months, and no skips from CD or MP3. Only time music skips is due to a scratch cd, so don't scratch the cd. I noticed that this player is much more sensitive to slight scratches as well for my MP3 cd's. I have played the music using verbatim high speed CD-RW and cheap Khypermedia CD-Rs, both read okay. People may complain about boot up time to see the cd, but it is close (if not faster) to the time my Sonic Blue mp3 sp-100 ( another favorite) takes to load a mp3 cd. The DSO seems to enhance the treble alot and the loud feature enhances both treble and Bass. To get the right sound out of the unit you can fine tune EQ7, seperate bass and treble, DSO, loud function, and high pass filter.
Look:
There are two knobs which make it easy to change tracks or volume. The controls are very easy to use, and not complicated with preset buttons like 1,2,3 and so on. The buttons are lit constantly by redish orange, looks nice during night when you match it with the LCD light. The directory change, repeat, and shuffle are conviently located.
Cons:
Recently had problems with Player finding MP3 music at all on some RW disc like imation and verbatim, but could be dust or slight scratches. To remedy this I would turn off and on until recognize the cd. The one that has no problem is a regular cd-r. Maybe need to always erase all the CD-RW before writing mp3's. so far it rarely skips. But on one occasions, on minus 10 degree weather there have been times the cd did not get recognize. I owned this unit for almost 1 year so far.
Speakers:
Though stock speakers aren't best, using this headunit to adapt works pretty good. So far happy about the purchase.
The remote:
This is a small remote, but not so small it will fall somewhere between a seat. It is slightly larger than a credit card size, it is very easy to use with volume and directory, file change at the bottom. Some people complain this is not easy to use, but I feel it works great and glows in the dark for some buttons. Funny thing is I saw a Viewsonic LCD projector remote and it is the same, but probably has different functions.
