Sony's Most Stylish

Pros options, amp, mp3 playback, faceplate, colors!
Cons radio reception, tiny buttons
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Looking for a great cd player that is stylish, great sounding, and has many options? Get this Sony. You might want to wait for the price to drop though.
I bought this car receiver only a few months after it was first released. Retail price was $499.99. Normally I would never pay this much as a much cheaper stereo would suffice for most people. I do work at a major electronics store so I got a nice hefty discount. To sum it up if you have to save up or spend an entire paycheck or two just to buy this unit don't bother, spend less!

I am very happy so far with the cd player though. It has a nice motorized faceplate and a tray loading mechanism (similar to a computer cd drive). I find it easy to change a cd and still keep my eyes on the road, the tray is lighted so you can see where you need to center the cd and snap it in place. The only drawback I can see to the tray mechanism is that the lens is exposed when you open the tray so it is possible to damage it easy which scares me slightly. I got a service plan so it's not to much of a worry if that happens though. Otherise the unit is rock solid.

The sound quality is excellent, I teamed up the cd player with some nice rockford phosgate fanatic 6.5" speakers in the front doors and in the back. Besides deep deep bass distortion, (from the smaller speakers) and my car itself it sound great high and mid range can't sound any more clear. The stereo has a feature that simulates component speakers or on the dash speakers and raises the sound from the door panels to the drivers level, this works very well and when driving on a windy day or driving very fast it overcomes any road noise or wind noise easily. You can also choose from preselected equalizer level or customize it any way needed. I have a problem with radio reception having static, I don't if it is my antennae or if the radio has a bad tuner. The cd player also has two sets or preouts, and aux input with a long cord that you can run to your glove box, and dual sub outs. Very nice options for setting up a high end system. It is also XM satelite radio ready which will be my next upgrade.

The MP3 function is great as you can have a cd with 100 plus songs on it and never have to change the disk. The selectable colors on for the display are nice also. You can customize it to match your dash lights or just to whatever color you like at the time. The buttons are very tiny and for some people this might be a problem. I like the fact that I don't have to go through many menus to find things though. The two nobs also act as buttons so you can push and turn your way through menus and not have to move to a new button. This cd player also has a removable faceplate that you should ALWAYS remove. My faceplate was stolen off the player (the thief must not have been able to remove the whole unit so they just decided to be a jerk), it cost me about $250 to replace. I have a security system now, but still remove the faceplate.
