Cons
It's discontinued
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
It's done what I have needed for many years. It's well worth buying if you see it on Ebay under $50.
I had originally gotten this small boom box several years ago to assist me in music lessons in my home studio and in performing for small groups. I recall spending around $100.
At the time, I had a lot of cassettes, so it being able to deal with them was very positive.
In the studio, nearly all of my students have SOMETHING that requires playing over a CD, and so I needed a boom box or shelf system that would do that. I was also looking for a unit I could play over myself in my one-person gigs for small groups.
The sound quality on this has always been acceptable in my home studio. I've been able to use this to provide background for my gigs with a crowd in a closed room of up to 50 people, most recently in a chapel of a local hospital. A bonus is the fairly light weight. Of around 10 pounds, and the relatively small space that it takes: 10" by 16.5" by 6.5".
I use the power cord, but it can also run on 8 D batteries.
It comes with a remote, that I really don't use much. On gigs, I get a little mini break for myself and I stop songs, introduce the next songs and then start them.
At one point, I was using this as a (very soft) stereo system in my office work as a Controller for a sizeable nonprofit agency. Unfortunately, after configuration, our cubicles are even more open and so our business unit has agreed that there will be no music during regular business hours. On the other hand, this unit does a great job providing sound for our office Christmas party.
So, right now, this is around the house waiting for the next small gig.
It has am/fm tuner, which I haven't used much and 20 programmable, available pre-set, which I also have not used much. I made sure it worked right when I got it, but I haven't needed it since then.
This has 4 equalizer alternatives for user selection. I have found that I enjoy the sound on the Rock mix best.. The mega bass feature adds a little bass power, but not a tremendous amount.
This is a good unit and it has worked well for several years. The unit has been discontinued in favor of more powerful units, but it's still functional.
It shows up occasionally on Ebay and I can recommend it for purchase there at under $50.
