Decent sound in an elegant, integrated package

Pros Compact, stylish, sounds OK
Cons Sound lacking depth. LCD Display difficult to read.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great Looks Mediocre Sound
This 30Watt/Channel stereo system includes a Tape, single disc CD player, and AM/FM Tuner with 20FM and 10AM presets.

This system seems to have been replaced by the CMT-CP11--which adds Treble and Bass controls.

Sound- This system sounds ok, good for kids or a secondary system for an office. Better than a boom box, but definitely not meant for anyone who has a very discriminating ear. Overall the system doesn't sound like it has much depth... with lower frequencies lacking richness.

Style- Overall the package is very attractive, with silver plastic and metallic main unit sandwiched between two blonde-wood finished speakers. It looks very nice on a table top or in a book shelf. However the colors will clash greatly if you pair this system up with a traditional
black-cased TV. The orange back-lit LCD display in the
tape door looks very cool, but is basically illegible unless you're right in front of it-- the contrast is very low. Also Sony added this stupid Hello and Good Bye greetings that scroll across the screen corresponding to power-on and power-off, respectively.

Tape- Full logic auto-reverse with Dolby B Noise Reduction (to reduce tape hiss). Features taping from CD.

CD player- performs adequately, have never heard it skip, after more than a year of use.

Tuner- Gets good reception and tons of presets (too many FM presets, in my opinion)

Dynamic Sound Generator (DSG)- This is some form of bass boost. It seems to make the bass frequencies louder, helping to add a little bit of substance to the sound, but it doesn't really improve the sound much. The low frequencies generated still seem thin, just louder.

Remote- a fairly standard Sony mini-system remote.
The keys to control volume, tape, cd, and tuner are clear
enough to use. The more advanced features, such as timer,
etc are baffling to use for the most part, and in my opinion, useless anyway.
