The Bottom Line:
Unless you want an elaborate home stereo system, this is for you.
For years I'd purchased the low-budget systems from RCA, JVC or Panasonic. After finding a deal on this Sony unit I'll never go back to another brand. The overall quality and clarity of this unit far surpasses the other systems I've had.
The unit itself is pretty stripped down. You get a single CD, single cassette player with the AM/FM radio preset stations. It was one of the smallest systems I found without resorting to a ghetto-blaster style, something that did not fit into the decor of my home. The speakers are detached and easily mounted.
The sound quality is excellent, the speakers deliver good volume and bass (I finally have a stereo that can properly play old Coltrane recordings). The radio signals come in crisp and clear, although the external antennae is a little clunky and obtrusive.
The interface is straightforward although the adjustments are limited to straight BASS and TREBLE. There is also a remote provided and oddly there are a couple of features only found on the remote, such as CD REPEAT. Aside from this oversight the "usability" (good word, eh?) of the system is very high.
Overall the decor, system power and size make it perfect for your average-sized home common area. It's not going to wake your neighbours, but you don't have to talk at a hush to hear the music. I highly recommend this unit for any home.
