The Bottom Line:
Small, yet delivers great sound.
I have a small bedroom and I only wanted to buy what I needed, rather than what I wanted. I don't listen to tapes so the single CD player did not bother me. The sound was even better once I got it into a small room. The bass is not booming, but none of the small systems have it. Overall, after hearing pretty much every small system (except for the Pioneer NS33 which I didn't have a chance to hear) this was the best sounding system. The others all sounded tinny. To get around the single disc problem, I purchased a Zenith dvd/cd changer and hooked it into the back.
If this helps, I listen to a variety of music ranging from classical to jazz to deep hard house.
I also considered the CMT-EX22, which was $50 more than the CMT-EX1. Was it worth it? Not really unless you have your heart set on the black lacquer finish. The sound is also not much superior to the EX1. The only discernible difference is that the EX22 has a pc input in the back whereas the EX1 does not. Also, it has the same number of audio inputs as the EX1. Will you really hook this one into the back of your computer? Probably not.
