if you really need a small hi-fi with an excellent sound - this is it
Pros
The best quality of sound in the price range and above.
Cons
Nothing dramatic, see the review for details

The Bottom Line:
This is a serios contender for those who need a nice natural sound from a mini hi-fi without price tags of Denon and Marantz.
This system is a fairly standard looking mini hi-fi, slightly larger than many others. It contains a tuner, a tape desk and a cd player with 3 CD changer. The input for a 3.5 mm cable from an mp3 player is provided too.
I chose this system for its sound after listening to about a dozen of similar sized mini/micro hi-fi units in price range of $150-$700. Since I needed a tape desk, my choice was somewhat limited, especially for higher priced systems.
My test records included listening to a piano and orchestra CD (2nd and 3d part of Litoff piano concerto, CD by Hyperion), and a tape (Wine Light by Grover Washington Jr, recorded on Sharp CDS600 from CD). The volume was 80% of the max and no adjustments were made to equialisers.
CMT-SPZ70 easily outperformed all systems including those twice more expensive.
The system produces crystal clear sound, with very well defined and not muddied highs as well as respectable lows for the size. Not a box for heavy metal but if you are a classic/jazz/natural sound lover this box is to be seriously considered. 3 CD changer is practical and easy to handle.
Some of the shortcomings are -
1. The terminals of the speakers are not standard wire but rather like RJ45s and the speaker cords are short, if you need to change speakers it's a hassle.
2. The manual is not well written and poorly organised, I would expect better from Sony.
3. The display has no dimmers (bad at night time), the letters are far too small to be readable when viewed from a distance. You can switch the display off though but only pressing a button on the remote.
4. The tape desk only plays in 1 direction and the tape should be manually turned (unexpected). There is no Dolby noise reduction system either(expected for the price).
5. There is no battery backup for the clock.
