will not last under rough use
Pros
nice screen good memory plenty of applications
Cons
flimsy
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Buy it if you can be careful with it.
I am writing this review after breaking my Sony CLIE.. So it is not a hypothetical situation.
Let me first start by saying that I expect Sony to be held to a higher standard due to the immensely impressive array of high quality products that they have delivered over the years. So when I say this piece is average, I mean by "Sony" standards.
The good:
This PDA comes with excellent screen resolution, adequate memory, Palm OS (Which has the most applications available for) and good looks. But all of this is to be expected from a Sony right?
Now the bad
I am not the most careful user of the PDA. I tend to keep it in my front shirt pocket and the poor thing has fallen down a few times (albeit it was in its case, which I had paid another 35 bucks for!!). These falls did cause a few dents on the body. However after a year and half, the PDA would not charge at all. When I sit it on its cradle it just does not seem to get any juice. I tried all the things suggested by the manual (and the customer service) soft reboot, hard reboot and so on but nothing worked. The customer service guy then suggested that I let it drain completely and it will start charging again. I let it drain and now I have a dead PDA. I don't know what to do with it. So I just put it in the basement with the rest of the broken gadgets bought another PDA This time it was CLIE 665 since everything else I looked at was equally flimsy!! Or perhaps PDA's are not meant to be manhandled.
Please someone design an active-person's PDA and sell it for a reasonable price!!
