Good quality at a reasonable price.
Pros
Good quality, great photos, nice price, nice package from Sony
Cons
The only thing I would do different is add a standard viewfinder.
Recommended it?

The Bottom Line:
Sony has put together a quality camera with great features at a very nice price. I would recommend this over anything else in the price range.
The Sony Cyber Shot DSC-S700 digital camera is a very good camera. This is the latest in the S500, S600, S650 series and each step is an improvement.
The picture quality is great! The controls are very straight forward and easy to use. Battery life is very good (I use Ni-Mh rechargeables with it.) The flash has better range than many cameras in this price range or higher. If you need more flexibility in your camera, there are dozens of advanced, programmable features, if not, just set it to auto mode for great all-around shooting.
The LCD screen is sharp and clear - one of the best I've seen!
This camera is perfect for the beginner, the "family photographer", or anyone who is looking for a good quality camera that is easy to use.
The camera's body is made of plastic, but it doesn't have that "toy" feel that many other cameras in this price range have. With 7.2 Megapixels and an ISO setting of up yo 1000, this camera is a bargain at the price. That is something new for Sony. I have usually found their products to be overpriced (buying the name, not the quality) but this line of cameras is a definite exception.
The camera uses Sony's Memory Stick memory cards as you would expect. What I really like is that it uses 2 standard AA batteries for power. This is something I always preach about in buying a camera. You don't have to spend a fortune buying a special battery pack and with AA batteries you are always near a source of battery power even if yours go dead in the middle of a shoot. Sony gives you the flexibility of using any type of AA battery, but I recommend that you purchase a good set of Ni-Mh batteries and a charger. In a pinch, you can use a set of alkaline AA's, but they won't last too long. Lithium batteries are another option, but I haven't tried them in this camera, yet.
The bundled software CDROM contains the drivers you will need and some nice editing and viewing software that is also straight forward to use. The manual is well-written and complete.
This is a good camera for the money. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for cameras in this price range.
Someone mentioned in a review that the DSC-S700 doesn't take high resolution video. That's true, but I would suggest that you buy an actual video camera if you are into video. Most still cameras are great still cameras, but fall short in the video mode. If you want a digital still camera, buy this one, if you want a video camera, buy a dedicated video camera.
