Why I Love This Camera

byking_sal May 29, 2006
34 Helpfuls 35 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Good quality pictures, Long battery life, Low price
Cons Uses expensive Memory Stick media
Recommended it? Yes

It's not everyday that I'm impressed with a particular digital camera. In fact, I come across several digital cameras monthly due to the nature of my hobby. Last month, I worked with the DSC-W50 to photograph some cars for a local automobile dealer. Having already worked with the DSC-W30, I wasn't... Read full review »

Impressive camera, improves on a great line...

Pros Better than it's more expensive predecessors. Fixes key faults.
Cons Television real-estate hucksters. Camera? No cons, really. Good value for price.
Recommended it? Yes

I've been a DSC-T1 owner for about 2.5 years now I guess, and I've had a chance to run the DSC-W50 through its paces and see how they stack up. The DSC-T1 broke new ground with its deck-of-cards form factor, and, I must say, despite my aging Nikon Coolpix 995's vastly superior indoor flash... Read full review »

Pros Fast! Great pics! Low Price! Lots of Features!
Cons Multi-Use Terminal.

Update: Dec 16, 2006
I've had this camera for quite some time now and I still really love it. I was concerned about battery life and chargers before but let me tell you, even with the focus set to Continuous, the battery seems to last forever! I decided that instead of buying a desktop charger... Read full review »

I'll keep this short - my camera is broken after only three months...

bywashington123 Jul 16, 2006
16 Helpfuls 17 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Low price, small size, many features, extra-large LCD and long battery life
Cons BROKEN, Surprisingly poor build quality, proprietary media/accessories and so-so image...
Recommended it? No

I initially chose this camera for the low cost, great battery life, extremely large LCD screen and decent performance. I have owned my Sony for a little more than three months and in that short time managed to snap over 1500 photos and about 30 videos (my wife and I welcomed a new member to the... Read full review »

Stunning Value For Money

byldu95240 Aug 26, 2007
13 Helpfuls 14 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Image quality, classy looks, feature packed, compact and easy to use
Cons Expensive storage media and accessories, user interface sometimes fiddly.
Recommended it? Yes

Sony's mid range DSC-W50 fits between the W30 and W70 and the main difference between them is that the W30 has a smaller 2-inch screen as opposed to the 2.5-inch item on the W50, whilst the W70 has the more flexible 7 megapixel CCD. Other than that they are identical. I'll give you the main stats:... Read full review »

OK camera, but many detractors

byeddie328 Oct 16, 2006
12 Helpfuls 13 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great battery life, compact/light weight, quick shutter, nice LCD display, great outdoor...
Cons No image stabilization, poor quality in low-lit situations, auto-focus is ticklish
Recommended it? Yes

I had read some pretty positive reviews on this product, both from here and other review websites. Most of them had few, if any, problems with the camera. However, I've had the camera for almost 3 months, and I am less than pleased with most of the results I have gotten.

I will come out... Read full review »

Nice & Compact

bycaljohn Jan 3, 2007
11 Helpfuls 12 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Fits in pocket, great pictures, good price for a 6MP camera ($250),
Cons Hard to get a good picture in low light,
Recommended it? Yes

This camera is pretty good. The only problem I have is when I want to take a picture indoors in a low light room. Either the picture comes out too dark or too bright (even on the low light with flash setting). Apart from that, it takes excellent pictures. It's very compact which makes it easy to... Nice camera, but not for photographing kids on the move!

bycdale17 Nov 4, 2006
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Build Quality, small size, picture quality
Cons SLOW auto-focus
Recommended it? No

This is a sleek, nice little camera that will fit in your pocket and take nice pictures. I returned mine within a couple of days, however, because of the painfully slow auto-focus. In standard indoor type lighting, this camera takes quite a while to lock on focus and snap a picture.

Cons Optical zoom is lacking

Looking for a great first camera? Not very digital savvy? Maybe you're experienced but are looking to upgrade but not spend a lot. If so, the Sony DSC-W50 is perfect for you. Much better than my old T1. User friendly!

byahohl1 Mar 27, 2007
8 Helpfuls 9 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Features are much more accessible and simple to use than previous models. Better battery.
Cons No "email" mode to record a small copy alongside the high-res copy.
Recommended it? Yes

What is the good of features if you have to read the manual 3 or 4 times to figure out how to use them? The W50 solves this problem with small but useful improvements. Where my T1 required use of the menu button to change pre-programmed modes (beach, moonlit, backlit, etc.) and W50 uses a wheel... Read full review »
