Sony Walkman D-171C Personal CD Player

I have been buying audio/video equipment since the mid 70s, but have only bought a few SONY products. There is a reason for this. From the first SONY reciever I bought a few years ago, to the SONY turntable, my SONY cassette walkman and finally this SONY discman, I have never been more disappointed in any audio/video equipment. Why did I buy so much SONY when I didn't like them? They make inexpensive products. Unfortunately, the price of the product usually dictates it's quality. This CD player skips worse than anything I've ever heard. If it's bumped, the top pops up and the CD comes off the spindle, causing scratches in most cases. It's very likely that the laser would be damaged by this if it was done enough, meaning the entire unit would be completely useless. It looks like I'll have to take another SONY product back to the store (good thing I always save my receipts). There are a thousand portable CD players out there, a lot of them even cheaper than this one, made by no-name companies. I dare say go with a no-name company after seeing how this unit performed.
