Don't skip this review, like my Discman does.
Pros
generally a good product, good brand, reasonable price
Cons
skips, not that many features, no rechargeable battery
Recommended it?
Yes
Well, when I saw the ad for a $59 Sony Discman, I couldn't refuse. I trust the brand name but I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on it.
What I got was the D-171. While it's certainly not the top of the line when it comes to CD players, I'd have to say it's pretty okay. When you hook a pair of GOOD headphones to it, it sounds great.
The main problem here is skipping. This CD player does not have the anti-skipping stuff. If your CDs have the least amount of dust or scratching you may get some skipping, especially at the beginning of the CD. It's usually not a huge problem and can be corrected if you hold the player in a number of different angles and positions.
I also took this thing everywhere for a year. Many times it's been stuffed in my backback in between heavy books, and so it's taken a beating. As a result, there is now something wrong with the earphone jack. You have to jiggle the headphone plug until sound comes in. It's so annoying, that now I don't use headphones with it anymore. I just hook it up to my portable stereo. I'm sure it's a minor thing that can be fixed.
It has mega bass, comes with the adapter and headphones, but no rechargeable battery. I wouldn't pay any more than what I paid for it, and actually I would look around and try to find it for less.
But I got my money's worth out it. I imagine most people have CD players these days, but this would make a good one (it's only the second one I've owned).
