One of the best MP3 players

Pros SOLID Construction, style, large display. Batteries below CD when playing..player also charges Ni-Cd, Ni-MH batteries
Cons No remote, No backlit display, no FF/REW for MP3 tracks, bad headphones
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Solid, style, battery charge method, sound..a good player but I DO NOT reccomend ...go see iRiver player...awesome check it out at http://iriveramerica.com/
Since writing this review I have returned the Sony player. I couldn't find good headphones and there was too much missing from the player. I found a better unit, comparable price with more features, remote and very slim styling and also FM radio. Check out the SlimX at http://iriveramerica.com/

I returned the Sony because: no remote, poor scrolling, no FF/REW of MP3 and no backlighting. All this and more in the iriver and it is thinnest on the market...looks like very thin Sony CD player ( the kind that plays only CD audio)

It is strange..the iriver came with AC adapter, case, remote, batt adapter, headphones (good ones!) and NI-MH stick batteries. Exactly what comes with the slim Sony that plays only CD audio. The iriver plays Mp3 and WMA and CD audio! Also, one heck of a menu and easy to use with great sound. SAME PRICE as thin Sony CD audio $199

Check out my iriver review..up soon

ORIGINAL REVIEW OF D-CJ01:

The player is solid and dependable..the finish is silver and cover has clear portions so you can see Cd inside. Batteries are beneath CD when playing...no battery door on the outside! The batteries stay in forever..since you plug in adaptor and press "Charge" and it charges Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries!! Best feature! Other features include shuffle play and repeat..cool one is shuffle within a folder (MP3 only). Also buttons to go forward and backward through folders on the disc. It supports VBR (Variable Bit Rate) and displays filename and ID3 text info (Album, Artist, Track) which is there only if you tag your MP3's that way..you can do this later with jukebox apps so don't worry if none of your files have it.

The player spins up 10 secs for every 1.5 mins of play..it plays back from memory..so I don't see how you could ever skip it, unless you were jogging or jumping really hard or jarred the player exactly as it was doing its 10 second read. I have tried shaking and whacking it and I can't do it so good luck. That's a good thing!

The sound is awesome...Bass 1 and 2 are Digital Mega Bass but are so good that Sony headphones have a hard time with it at higher volume. Maybe they designed that way so you don't go deaf..but I am not talking about MAX just good and LOUD...you have to back off about 5-8% from where you want to be to get the distortion out. Otherwise...BAM the sound is delicious! I use Sony MDR-Q33LP over the ear type..only the EX70 fontopoids do a better job with the bass, but they are overkill on the bass and you shove them in like earplugs..you can't hear anything except yourself breathe until the music starts! Can be good..but uncomfortable for me and I bet also for 90% of people. I REALLY COULDN"T FIND HEADPHONES TO MATCH.

You don't get as many bells and whistles but you do get solid player that will last, excellent sound and battery life (24hrs Mp3, 30 hours CD) that is said to be less time with rechargables but I bought Ni-MH and have yet to run them down...although only played 6 hours, only a quarter gone so I think Ni-MH batteries will be same specs as regular alkalines.

Only down side for the price was no remote or batteries...you only get AC adapter and wrist strap. But when you think about charging the batteries internal..it seems really good. The remote is RM-MC11ES, Sony part 147639511 and costs $93.95!! Ouch. The regular sony player slimline costs $199 and comes with all that..too bad they didn't boost the price and add it!!!
