The Ultimate Discman, by Sony.

Pros MP3 playback, sleek design, extended battery life.
Cons No remote control, no WMA support.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you're seriously thinking of extending your audio pleasure beyond the computer, the Sony MP3 CD Walkman can do wonders for you.
When I was looking for a present for my girlfriend's birthday, I had many choices for giving her a present. Firstly giving her money is rather an unoriginal way of giving a present. It does work if you!|re a small child, by accepting money from a friend or relative. First, I know that my girlfriend already had a Palm m125 handheld and a Dell laptop computer as her Christmas presents. But how to really further compliment her Christmas presents is a question. Since her laptop had a CD Rewriter in it, I knew that giving her a portable CD player could really compliment with the laptop computer. When I've seen an MP3 CD player offered by Sony, I was amazed at the price and the quality that Sony was going to offer.

The player

The CD player itself has a sleek design, but it's not as sleek as those thinner counterparts. The control panel on the audio player is also easy to use, as it allows easy playlist editing and with the folders that you've created and categorized, you can skip your playlists easily whenever your moods change. This means, no more sorting out CDs and rummaging through your catalogue to find your ideal song within the CD. Grouping them is kind of like having a CD changer, except that it is done virtually. With the 2 Line & 10 character Dot Matrix display on the player, you can manage the playback of the audio player easily and quickly without any guesswork. Even the volume control can be seen on the screen for the digital volume control feature. Here, you can play the same track repeatedly, create your own playlist and many more, kind of what you could do with the CD changer in your car. However, for those who would like the convenience of a wired remote control, it isn't featured here, not even as an accessory. It would have been a much more convenient way of controlling basic playback options if the player came with a remote control, without ever reaching fore the player.

With the digital volume controller, you can easily find your ideal volume emitting out of the supplied earphones. Plug the player into a 2.1 speaker system, like the Creative Inspire 2400; it will shake your room and your senses. Then it becomes a party every time you turn that player on with the 2.1 speaker system. With the Digital Mega Bass sound system, it provides the user adequate bass for their audio pleasure and it delivers quality bass without ever even thinking of hooking up the player to a 2.1 speaker system. But it does help a bit if you can hook it up to a 2.1 speaker system.

Even though it is an MP3 CD player, you can still play your existing CD collection with this CD player. As a result, it's a very versatile audio player indeed. With the player, it just makes it an ideal extension to your audio collection that you've spent hours downloading off the Internet. But the problem with the player is that it doesn't support the Windows Media Audio format (WMA), a compressed version of MP3. Therefore, the capacity of audio is limited to over 10 hours of audio.

With the G-Protection present in the CD player, it allows you to run and listen to your favorite tunes at the same time, without ever missing any trace of music. Plus, the IC chip, new mechanism and Sony!|s advanced engineering, it allows the CD player to play 24 Hours of continuous playback for MP3 CDs and 32 Hours of non-stop playback for regular audio CDs, longer than any other MP3 CD player in the market for using 2 AA batteries. With the AC adapter, it allows you to operate the audio player without ever feeling concerned about the batteries. Plus, the hand strap makes carrying the CD player easy while jogging without ever using a belt clip or holster.

But the sleek design is what really attracted me to buy the MP3 CD player from Sony. The transparent cover really gives you an idea of what's inside and you can easily tell that there is a CD in the player. Most importantly at all, is that the design is really enhanced by the look of having brushed aluminum.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would say that this is one of the best products that Sony has ever made in the recent past. With their unparalleled reliability, I can have an extra peace of mind that the product will last a decent amount of time. But the shame is that it didn't offer a car adapter so that you can take it on the road with you. Remember, as in any MP3 CD player, you need at least a CD-RW to make it useful. But there isn't any software, but your CD recording software should just do. At $149, it's really a great present for anyone who wants to extend their audio pleasure to the streets or the road.
