Sony's New WalkMan Walks But Can't Really Talk
Pros
Backlit LCD, folder navigation, simplicity, strong battery life
Cons
slowly navigates mp3s, no radio support, not upgradeable, a bit pricey
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Great quality, but could've been much better. If you're gonna shell out $120, then go all out and get something like the new, slim Rio for about $60 more.
I have been waiting to get this product for quite a while, but to be honest, it wasn't as exciting as I hoped. While the design is sleek, I also wished more colors were released... maybe an ice blue. The backlit LCD is very nice and clear, you can organize your numerous mp3s in folders, and the battery life is over 30 hours. Those qualities are impressive but the problems bogg down what could have been one of the best, if not the best, mp3 CD players out there. I'm mostly frustrated by the slowless in navigating through mp3s. When you've misplaced a song in another folder, and you're trying to get to it, it becomes an obstacle. I'm surprised that it doesn't have radio support because the feature has become increasingly important. Although I don't think I'll be using anything except mp3s, its inability to upgrade makes it lesser than some other players that are prepared for future changes, like the RioVolt. Last, I bought it for $120, a bit much when you consider the player's simple features. Lets hope Sony releases something a bit more innovative in its next endeavor.
