It's funny how the electronics world goes. I never even considered replacing my old Panasonic portable CD player, because it just never seemed like it was on the way out. (and that's saying a lot, seeing as how it was 6 years old and was dropped out of a car at 30mph!) But inevitably, it happened. It couldn't supply constant power through the jack, so I needed to replace it.
What I ended up getting was the Sony model D-E206CK portable CD player with car kit. I guess I really didn't give it much thought. I just knew I needed a new one, with anti-skip and a car kit. I saw this one on sale and it looked nice, and Sony has long been reputable for their quality and reliability. This CD player is by no means an exception to that rule. It is well built, and has ESP2, which makes the feared skip a distant memory. All the controls are plain to see, but the one complaint I have on that is the absence of the pause button. Sony utilizes the stop button as a sort of pause button as well. This is a good idea gone wrong. It makes restarting a CD a whole lot of trouble for a simple task. To date, the only way I've found to do this is to remove the power supply.
Sound quality is another thing altogether. For what it was, it kicks out tremendous sound. The switchable Mega Bass boost really changes how the music sounds. In fact, I can't imagine the player without it. The headphones are also well made with wonderful sound and great fit and form. The car accessories also transmit the sound very well. Not too shabby for a total package under $60.
All in all, this isn't a bad little machine in any aspect. It is economical, gives off great sound, and comes with everything you need to listen at home or in the car. I've always come to expect the best from Sony, and this player keeps those expectations intact. Needless to say, in another six years (with luck), my next player will be another Sony, but probably a little higher end model...
