"Don't Want to Sacrifice Performance for Price?"

Pros A well priced CD player with long battery life.
Cons The ESP feature is questionable at times.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  A great player at a great price... Enough said.
Have you have been looking for a portable CD player that doesn?t sacrifice performance to increase affordability? Then look no further, as Sony has introduced a truly magnificent alternative to those over-priced and under-performing players that just don?t hold up in today?s demanding market. I bring you the Sony Psyc? a stylish player that delivers above average play at a below average cost.

Are you a runner? Just like listening to music on the go? Whatever your reasons for purchasing a portable audio device, you?d better be careful not to get fooled ? not all players are created equal. The Sony Psyc is definitely above the rest in its class. Featuring a stylish design, long battery life, and a lightweight body, it seems the perks of this player are never ending. Sound like the CD player for you?

The most important aspect of any CD player is sound quality, which is dependant upon two things. There is how the laser extracts information off the compact disc, and then there is the quality of the headphones, each very important. The Psyc seems to read CDs well enough, presenting quality sound. The headphones that are prepackaged with the player are the Sony ?Street Style? head phones, which wrap around your head. I found these head phones to have great sound presentation, and look stylish too. These won?t mess your hair up on the way to church :o)

The Psyc also has ESP, or Electronic Skip Protection. I did have a few problems with this feature though. I run, and I run fast. Perhaps I was just running too hard, but I do not think the ESP lasted for a full 40 seconds, as advertised repeatedly. When walking or lightly jogging it does hold up though, so it doesn?t seem to be a completely faulty system. You can choose to turn off ESP to conserve battery life.

Speaking of batteries, I noticed that the Psyc has an extremely long battery life. I have been using the same pair of Sony batteries for around 3-4 months now, and they are only half depleted. And this was with the ESP on, which supposedly drains more battery life. This is excellent, because on a part time job salary, the last thing I need is to buy batteries on a weekly basis!

The Psyc is a very light player ? it will not weigh you down. Another feature of the body I found very nice was the different styles available. You can choose from an assortment of colors, each one to fit the style of a specific individual. As for myself? I chose red! There is also blue, purple, pink, and possibly a green to choose from though. (At the time, I could only choose between red, pink, and blue?) The headphones, as I mentioned above, are also very good looking.

Information such as what track you are on, and the time the song has been playing is presented on a small LCD screen. The screen is well lit, and is easy to read. Several buttons are near the screen, including play, next and last track, and stop. The on/off button for the ESP is located under the disc. This means you can?t change the ESP on the go, which is a small problem. A fairly standard feature that still amazes me is the status monitor for your batteries, which is surprisingly accurate.

The price of the Psyc is also a redeeming quality, being reasonably priced at around fifty dollars. There are many players of lower quality costing much more money. You can purchase the Psyc at a variety of locations, from Wal-Mart to HiFi Buys. I personally bought mine at Best Buy. I have recently learned that you may want to consider buying your electronics at Circuit City, because they have the best return policy on such products.

In conclusion, the Psyc is truly a great player for the money, and I strongly recommend you go and check things out. This CD Player is good from everything to the Star Wars Episode 2 Sound Track (Orchestra Music), to the new Will Smith CD, Born to Reign (Hip Hop). Check it out today!
