Sony D-E301--one nice portable CD player

Pros affordable, durable, features a line-out for second set of headphones
Cons factory headphones aren't the best, you might want to upgrade
Recommended it? Yes
After being in the market for a nice, affordable portable CD player for my girlfriend (mainly to listen to while flying) I finally purchased a Sony D-E301. We're very pleased with the player.

The D-E301 features a 10 second memory, Electronic Shock Protection (for those times when you're using it in the car or while walking/jogging/etc.) and a 1 bit DAC. It also features a heat resistant lid, and a 3 level bass boost (which actually sounds nice, not all distorted as you might expect.) The unit also offers a line-out in the back, where you can hook up a second set of headphones (although, you can't adjust the volume on the second set, and the bass is positioned at the lowest setting.)

Sound quality is quite good, although the headphone speakers seem a little small. At any rate, you can listen to anything from bass heavy hip-hop to more acoustic fare without compromising on the aural end of things.

The player has a sleek design, with a digital display and all major function buttons right on the front of the unit--guaranteeing easy access. The only odd button placement is for the resume feature. For some reason, this is placed inside the CD player, underneath where the disc would be.

The D-E301 is great on batteries. We've been averaging roughly 12 to 14 hours of play time per set of fresh AA batteries. Utilizing the ESP feature will lower that time, though.

If you're in the market for an affordable, durable portable CD Player, you should certainly consider the Sony D-E310. It offers some great features at a price that won't break the bank.
