Recommended it?
Yes
This is a great Discman. I have had it 2 years, with few gripes. It uses ESP2 technology so that it has over 20 seconds of buffering memory. This increases the ability to prevent skipping. It works well.
This is a CD player that can go through the bumpiest of car rides without skipping. On one particularly bumpy ride, it fell out of my lap, rolled down my leg, and hit the floor of the car. It did not skip. I can take it and shake it like a tamborine for 20+ seconds without it skipping. Another suprising thing is that the case is designed rather well, and even with ESP turned off, it will not skip as long as it is not bumped too hard.
The case is sturdy enough, I have dropped it a few feet, and its still alive. However, along the edge, it is starting to get discolored, leading me to believe the finish or paint or something is coming off. It is not chipping or anything, its just discolored slightly. There is not any bumpiness or roughness or anything on this discoloration.
This is not a CD player that can be used for running or jogging. I have tried and it starts skipping too soon and too often. I can walk around the house with it in my pocket and it doesnt skip, so that is good. I once had it in my jacket pocket while in a museum, very nice.
The sound quality is good enough. I did not notice it as being bad, or exceptionally good either. It's sound is just as good as any other Discman I have listened to. It has 3 setting for the equalizer, off, Mega Bass, and Groove. The Mega Bass does not seem to increase the Bass that tremendously, but I like the sound of groove(not just the sound of the word groove), groove is good.
This is a good CD player for the price.
More expensive ones have longer buffers that allow you to jog or run with them. Others have radio tuners. But if you can get this CD player for $100 or less now, and do not car about those other features, then you got a good deal.
