Not too bad, if you own a soldering iron...
Pros
Decent sound, great battery life, nice look, durable
Cons
Door switch goes flakey right after warranty expires
Recommended it?
Yes
Not a bad product, as long as you own a soldering iron =-)
Being a student,I use my Discman heavilly, at least 3-4 hrs a day while travelling on the bus, during my block off, etc. It definately puts stress on a player! My old D-121 (about 1992 or so) has been work out to the point that the spindle motor is about shot (squeaks, badly), but this one is still holding together. I'm surprised. It's been pretty durable too! Taken a few drops, and survived.
Although - You should own a soldering iron. Of course, no more than a month after the warranty expired, it started shutting off by itself! The switch that tells it the door is closed goes flakey! Easy fix at least. A good friend of mine has a similar player, his did too =-/
It sounds pretty decent, Not as great as some of Panasonic's but not bad at all. Decent bass, but it can't be cranked up too much. Battery life is great! I get about 6hrs on Ni-Cad rechargeables, and easilly 10hrs on Alkalines.
I've had NO problem at all with dirty, scratched CDs, and CD-Rs work great (even dirty scratched ones! =-)
The headphones it comes with are surprisingly, not bad! Groove mode sucks, MegaBass is great!
One tip also, and this applies to many Sony players, is in the battery compartment, there is a little "sliver" button between the batts, if you press this in with a piece of plastic (I used milk-jug plastic) it can charge rechargeable batteries with it's AC adaptor! Great!
overall, I'd say buy it! make sure to look at Panasonic players first though!
